Hugh Wilson

Hugh Wilson gave the land that the Good Hope Baptist Church is on in Washington County, Ohio, just outside of Marietta. The interstate is down the slope from the church. Some land and graves might have been taken in construction of the interstate, Hugh Wilson's being one of them.

Per Donna Gohde: someone tore this page out of a book in Ireland and this is a copy of it. Family story is that Hugh and Mary may have brought it with them as proof of their marriage. George Wilson (Lowell OH) was given the original by Molly Wilson Drain. Transcription:
"I do hereby certify that the bearer Hugh Wilson a member of the Congregation of Dromara (?) was married according to the ? of our church to Mary Clockey a regular member of the congregation of Anahill on the 20th day of May in the year of 1818 in presence Andrew Garrett and Andrew Wilson. It is further certified that Mary Wilson alias Clockey has always conducted herself so far as I know in the most harmless and regular manner. Given under my hand this 20th day of May 1818. (Signed) William Wright, minister, Anahilt, County of Down, Ireland." Dromara and Anahilt are about 15 miles apart.

    Hugh was a member of the congregation of Dromara, County Dromore and Mary was a member of the congregation of Annahilt, County Down, which are about 55 miles apart. Annahilt is a suburb of Belfast, Dromara is about 55 miles south.
