Esther Johanna Peterson
graduated from San Jacinto High School with honors and worked for many years at Mortgage & Trust, Inc. She was very active at Epworth Parker United Methodist Church serving several terms as secretary for United Methodist Women and the Women's Circle Group, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and writing a column for the church paper entitled, "The Gospel according to Matthews
". She enjoyed several civic organizations, including Eastern Star, Gulf Gate AARP, Gulfgate Grandmothers Club and the Mason Park Craft Group. Her devoted friend for many years was Ellouise Fowler. She was born on 12 September 1913 at Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. The 1920 Federal Census enumerated her as a member of John Hoffman Peterson's
household; Hoffman Peterson, age 56, emigrated 1880, naturalized 1890, can read and write, born Denmark; wife Marie, age 36, emigrated 1910, alien, can read and write, born Denmark; Esther, age 6, born North Dakota, Helen, age 4, born North Dakota, May, age 2, born Texas. The 1930 Federal Census enumerated her as a member of John Hoffman Peterson
's household; Peterson, Herman - head, m/w/64/married, born Denmark, parents born Denmark, language Danish, a miller at a dairy, land owner, valued at $1600. Esther Johanna Matthews died on 13 December 2003 at Houston at age 90 and was buried at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
