     Obituary for Homer Cooper
Homer Ray Cooper, 95, of Windsor, Missouri, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Mo. He was born September 8, 1914, in Johnson County, near Windsor, the son of Charles Vincent “Charlie” Cooper and Charlottie (Elliott) Cooper. On June 19, 1937, in Windsor, he married Evelyn Nadine Dady, who preceded him in death on January 5, 2009. Mr. Cooper was a farmer and raised many animals including cattle and horses. Many years ago he was owner/operator of the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Windsor and he was also a real estate and insurance agent. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and was a former member of the Windsor IOOF Lodge #187. As a young man he enjoyed boxing, playing the harmonica and juice harp. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and fishing. He is survived by a son, Clifford Cleatis Cooper, Windsor, Mo; 3 daughters, Myrna R. Shirey, Montrose, Co; Sharon L. Ebeling, Chilhowee, Mo; and Charla R. Cummins, Windsor, Mo; 8 grandchildren, Michael Cummins, Crystal Cummins, Cindy Matthes, Susan Kemper, Denise Borg; Ashley Wagoner; Rebecca Rodriguez; and Jennifer Nelson; 2 step-grandsons, Jason Schmitt and Bradley Borg; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Carol Cooper, Raytown, Mo; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Randy “Barney” Cooper; Gary Vincent Cooper; a daughter Raedeana Jean Ramirez; a granddaughter, Lavone Nicole Cooper; and 5 brothers, Clarence, Neal, Joe, Rolla Frank and Wallace; and 2 sisters, Minnie and Lois. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, at Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, with Rev. Gene Ekstrand officiating. Homer Ray Cooper was born on 8 September 1914 at Johnson County, Missouri. He married Evelyn Nadine Dady on 19 June 1937. Homer Ray Cooper died on 18 July 2010 at Clinton, Missouri, at age 95.

Mrs. Seymour S. Garey, one of the first residents of Elmira Heights in 1895, died Friday night at 11:45 o'clock at the family home, 206 Oakwood avenue, in that village, aged seventy-three years.
Mrs. Garey was a native of Dushore, Pa. and was highly respected by many friends. She had suffered an extended illness.
The decedent is survived by her husband, Seymour S. Garey, a merchant in Elmira Heights many years; four sons, John P., Arthur L., Charles S. and Walter C. Garey, all of Elmira Heights; four brothers Jermone N. Ortlieb of Dushore, Pa; Victor Ortlieb of Hollenback, Pa., Morris Ortlieb of Rochester, and Justy Ortlieb of Alaska; Three sisters, Miss Mary Ortlieb of Dushore, Pa; Mrs. William Schmeckenbecher of New Albany, Pa. and Mrs. Floyd Palmer of Ithaca; two grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the family home, Monday at 2 p.m. The Rev. E. A. Mathews of the Oakwood M.E. Church officiated. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. She (an unknown value.)

     John P. Garey married Louise Lutes. John P. Garey was born in 1876. He died on 12 December 1958 is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Of Oakwood Ave. Elmira Heights, who died Friday, was a pioneer Heights resident and was prominent in the textile industry. Mr. Garey came to the Heights with his father from Dushore, PA, in 1894, two years before the village was incorporated. He attended Elmira schools and Warner Business College, He worked for several years for the Queen City Knitting Mill, and was general manager when he left in 1918 to become manager of a new textile division at the Eclipse plant. Mr. Garey held about 20 patents; all connected with textiles, including a yarn cleaner which he invented while working for the knitting mill. Other inventions included a bobbin holder and a device for spinning yarn. He retired from the Eclipse about 1950, In his younger days Mr. Garey was a baseball pitcher and was manager of the American Bridge Co. team, a semi-pro outfit. He is survived by a son, John T. Garey Jr of Van Nuyes, CA; brothers Arthur L, Charles S, and Walter C Garey, all of Elmira Heights; four grandchildren. Woodlawn Cemetery.
