Garey and was a descendant of pioneer stock of the early settlers of the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania, where he was born in 1846. He formerly resided with his family in Dushore, PA and Gonzales, TX, where he was for ears engaged in the cattle business, owning one of the first enclosed ranges in Texas. Mr. Garey located in Elmira Heights in 1896 soon after the village was organized. Mr. Garey was actively interested in the civic and business growth of the community. He served as one of the first trustees for the village, and conducted a mercantile and real estate business. During his thirty-six years of residence in Elmira Heights, he endeaared himself to many folks of the community and his passing has taken another of the very first...
     He resided in 1869 at Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. He resided in 1878 at Gonzales County, Texas. (an unknown value) 1881 Gonzales County. He was purchased lots 8 & 9 in tier 2, north of the eastern avenue from A. A. Brooks and wife Clara L. Brooks for $1200 cash on Feb 19, 1883 at Gonzales, Gonzales County, Texas. He resided in 1888 at Dushore, Sulllivan County, Pennsylvania; sold his farm of 730 acres. He resided in 1910 at Elmira, Chemung County, New York.
