In his youth, Karl was active in 4-H, football and baseball and loved riding his horse, Old Bill. Upon graduation from Lyford High School, he attended Texas A&M University. In 1964, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and a Marksmanship badge. Afterward, he enrolled at Texas College of Arts and Industries in Kingsville, Texas where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He married Mida on June 10, 1972, and at the time of his death, they had been married forty-nine years and one day. Karl spent his career as an agricultural loan officer, and in 2003, he and Mida moved to the Texas Hill Country. Over the last seventeen years of his life, Karl enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons, attending their school and sporting events, and being proud of them every step of the way.

He is survived by his wife Mida, daughter, Heidi Peltier (Christopher) of New Braunfels; son, Nathan Schlessiger (Jessica), of Bulverde; grandchildren, Ethan Peltier, Rory Peltier, and Cash Schlessiger; sisters, Kathryn Ann Kurz of Pleasanton, and Paulette Reed Pyron of Hondo, and brother, Larry Schlessiger (Patti Dru) of Center Point. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Graveside service will be held at Hill Country Memorial Gardens in New Braunfels on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Karl’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Hope Hospice of New Braunfels.
