     Oren Adelbert Rice was born on Jul 8, 1855 at DeWitt County, Texas. He married Mary Alice Hodges, daughter of Daniel (Progenitor) Hodges and Mary Wheelace, on May 13, 1875 at Goliad County. Oren Adelbert Rice died on Jan 25, 1925 at Yoakum, DeWitt County, Texas, at age 69 [died of pneumonia; informant S. C. Parker; death certificate no 1348 or 01112]. He was buried at Alexander Cemetery, DeWitt County, military style by the KKK per Mildred Parker Reinhardt. Mildred said she remembered it. She was about 6 yrs old when he died. Obituary from the Cuero Record: "Crossenville, Jan. 27. The death angel visited the Rice home taking away the beloved father and grandfather. Mr. Rice was laid to rest in the Alexander Cemetery Monday afternoon, Jan 26, at 4 o'clock."
     He was described as black hair, blue eyes, 5'8" tall. He was a farmer and avid hunter. He is listed on DeWitt County tax rolls as having 117 acres, 2 horses, 22 mules, 2 cattle, 3 hogs for a total of $545 in 1885. He with W H Rice, J H Wood, A E Wood and his wife, all of DeWitt County, and J M Newman and his wife Mary E Newman, of Caldwell County, sold property located on the waters of Little Brushy Creek to Abraham Bowen for $200 (signed by O A Rice et al) on Jun 2, 1886 at Terryville, DeWitt County, Texas. The 1900 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Jun 1, 1900 Stratton, DeWitt County, Texas; Rice, Oren A., head, w/m/July 1855/49, married 25 years, born Texas, father born Ohio, mother born Pen or Ten. The 1910 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Apr 15, 1910 DeWitt County; Oren 55, farmer, father born Ohio, mother born Pennsylvania; Alice 50, father born Alabama, mother born Illinois; Truman 14, Bettee 12, Ethel 10; 37 years married; 10 children.

     Mary Ann Cochran was born on Jul 13, 1855 at North Carolina. She married William Wilson Rice, son of Thomas (McClure) Rice and Elizabeth Wilson, on Nov 5, 1879. Mary Ann Rice was buried at Alexander Cemetery, DeWitt County, Texas. She died on Feb 13, 1905 at Stratton, DeWitt County, Texas, at age 49 [cause of death- bronchitis; death certificate no 18227] and was buried at Alexander Cemetery.

     Malinda Caroline White was born on Sep 11, 1855 at Paris, Lamar County, Texas. She married George Washington Goyne, son of John R. Goyne and Elizabeth Byars, on Jul 28, 1872 at Lamar County, Texas. Malinda Caroline White died on Oct 31, 1937 at age 82.

     Sara Jane Autrey was born on Oct 17, 1855 at Mississippi. She died on Sep 27, 1866 at Halletsville, Lavaca County, Texas, at age 10.
