     William Henry "Roane" Rice was born on Apr 7, 1857 at Texas. He married Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie or Lens" Karl, daughter of John Karl and Victoria März, on Nov 13, 1882. William Henry "Roane" Rice died on May 23, 1923 at Yoakum, Texas, at age 66 of cerebral hemorrhage; informant E. J. Rice; death certificate no 80. Per Kraig Rice: William Henry Rice had a stroke and was unconscious. He laid in bed at the old farm house for a week and never regained consciousness. He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Yoakum.
     He was a farmer, had red hair and blue eyes, was 6' tall. The 1880 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Jun 1, 1880 DeWitt County, Texas; wm,25, single, farmer, born Texas, father born Ohio, mother born Ireland. He was listed on DeWitt County tax rolls as having 250 acres, 3 horses, 60 mules, 13 cattle, 3 sheep, 13 hogs for a total value of $749. in 1885. He sold property to Abraham Bowen, signed by W H Rice on Jun 2, 1886 at DeWitt County, Texas. The 1900 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Jun 21, 1900 Yoakum; Rice, William, head, w/m/Apr 1857/43, married 17 years, born Texas, father born Ohio, mother born New York, farmer, owned house, Mary E., wife, w/f/Aug 1858/41, 7 children, 6 living, born Texas, parents Germany, Jessie J., son, w/m/May 1885/15, born Texas, Effie J., son, w/m/Oct 1887/12, born Texas, Salina, daughter, w/f/July 1890/9, born Texas, Amelia, daughter, w/f/Feb 1893/7, born Texas, Eugene H. w/m/6 born Texas, Eva A.
