     He served "served as a drill instructor in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and in Camp Pendleton, Claifornia, fought with the First Marine Division at the Chosin reservoir in North Korea, where he was wounded in actio and won the Purple Heart, and served in Da Nang during the war in Vietnam, winning the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the U. S. Marine Corps as a master sergeant.
